Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When are show team tryouts?

A: We hold tryouts at the beginning of Fall Quarter and the beginning of Winter Quarter, the date of try outs are determined at the beginning of each quarter and will be announced at our weekly meetings and on our Facebook group. **Requirements for tryouts are subject to change each quarter. Attend meetings for up to date information**

Q: Do I need to bring my own horse and tack?

A: No! We have a group of wonderful horses we use for our team practices and we have our own tack for each horse.

Q: What do I need to bring?

A: Jeans/Breeches, riding boots (or paddock boots and half chaps), and a helmet are all you need as a general member. You will need Western and/or English show clothes if you plan on joining either or both show teams.

Q: Can I still ride if I don't want to show?

A: Yes! We have a general team and a show team. General members still ride and practice with the team, but do not have the commitment of showing.

Q: Can I join the club if I don't want to ride?

A: Of course! We have plenty non-riding members who just want an opportunity to meet and spend time with other horse lovers. Non-riding members can still groom, care for, and love on our great horses!

Q: How often will I get to ride?

A: Usually you will ride once a week. This is our goal.

Q: What colleges will I compete against at the shows?

A: During the normal season, we compete against CSU Monterey Bay, College of the Sequoias, Reedley College, Santa Clara University, Sonoma State University, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and UC Santa Cruz (colleges may vary depending on Western and Hunt Seat disciplines). Riders who make it into the post-season will compete against colleges from all over the country.

Q: What's expected of me as a CPET member?

A: Be involved! In addition to riding, we expect members to attend our meetings every Tuesday at 8pm as well as any socials and horse care days we have. We also require that members help with one feeding shift per quarter, more information about feeding shifts and care days will be given at our weekly meetings. In CPET you get out what you put in-- if you give CPET your love, you could meet some amazing people and have a lot of fun at the same time!

Q: Is there a way I can stay up to date on club events?

A: Yes! Be sure to follow our Instagram, like our Facebook page, and join our Facebook groups. These are the go-to platforms to be sure you don't miss a thing!

Q. Can I board my horse at the school?

A: Yes, it is competitive to get spots at the school to board your horse and there are many barns around campus that other team members board at as well. Check out the unit's information page through Cal Poly to get more info on boarding and prices.
